Where Your Yoga Experience began
Updated: Aug 4, 2020
Hello and welcome to our blog!
Sue here. I'd like to tell you a little bit about me, and about our Yoga and Pilates studio, Your Yoga Experience, Burnley. Now, before we jump ahead, let me turn back the clock to give you some background.
At the age of 11 I bought my first book about Yoga. It was called Yoga and Health, by Richard Hittleman. I started practicing daily with a friend for years, but this became less and less frequent as I moved into my late teens, as I focused on developing my career in hairdressing at the time!
When I was 22, I got married to the perfect husband, and over the coming years, had three wonderful children: Charlotte, Jamie and Josh (who continue to support me and my business today).
As a busy wife and mother, I didn’t resume exercising seriously until my late 20s. Soon after, I qualified as an exercise to music teacher, and began to teach aerobics (we're talking 80s-90s era here) and I loved it! I also regularly attend Pilates classes (side note: I didn’t know of any Yoga classes at the time in the area, Yoga was a little "niche" at the time).
Exercise and health was, and is, a huge part of my life. I was a keen runner, completed five marathons, many half marathons, and more other running events than I could count! I am a qualified personal trainer, and around eight years ago, I added to my repertoire and I qualified as a Pilates teacher. Around the same time, I went back to practicing Yoga, and completely fell in love with it again.
I qualified as a teacher around five years ago at the age of 56. My background in various forms of exercise and training really helped me to find my own style with my teaching and practice, and I hope you'll join me at a class if you are in the area! I am currently continuing education and studying a Pilates Reformers qualification! Very exciting, and I can't wait to bring this service to the studio.
My two sons run a Personal Training and Performance centre in Burnley. They first opened in 2011, with a then unheard of concept of a "Personal Training studio". Back then, Personal Training wasn't common practice in the area: in fact, like most, back then, just explaining the concept proved difficult.
As the PT business grew, we relocated from the town centre. The boys opened the Personal Training and Performance centre, and I took the opportunity to build an upstairs studio- purpose built for Hot Yoga and Pilates!
We have six wonderful teachers or offering their brilliantly individual style Hatha yoga, Yin yoga, and Vinyasa Flow. We also offer Pilates and Barre with our qualified and experienced team. If you'd like to find out more, simply contact us here.
Due to current restrictions as a result of COVID-19, we have a limited capacity at the studio. Please contact us to sign up or book.
If you have been a previous member and would like to return to practicing at our studio, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or use the contact form and we will look to get you booked in ASAP.
Thanks for taking a moment to read this blog! That's a bit of background to me (Sue) and our wonderful business. We can't wait to practice with you!
P.S. I'd love to hear your story on how Yoga helps you! Post it in the comments below!
